OCCUPATIONAL
THERAPY
Occupational therapy is the practice of helping people engage in the activities that they want and need to do throughout the day, known as occupations. For kids, the most important occupations are play and school! Your child might benefit from OT intervention if they have trouble participating in these two important occupations as compared to their same-age peers. Specifically, OT looks at improving and/or maintaining fine motor skills, sensory processing, self-regulation, hand-eye coordination, handwriting, using both hands at once (bilateral coordination), balancing, dressing, feeding themselves, or even paying attention at school.
A pediatric speech therapist works to assess, diagnose, and treat a variety of disorders and delays that impact a child’s functional communication skills. We work to address what a child is able to say (expressive language) and what they understand (receptive language), as well as how they say sounds and words (articulation/phonology), and so much more! There are many reasons why a child may need speech therapy. If you notice that your child is not on par with their peers or developmental milestones for their age, they may benefit from speech therapy!
